Our villagers have toiled, sweat, cried and laughed for over four decasdes building something that they couldn't imagine in their wildest dreams, a self-governing society where all citizens have an equal, but over-ridable say in their day-to-day affairs. Our elected administration officials welcome voting on matters concerning the well-being of all, but make the hard calls when it comes to the longevity of our existence as free men and women smack dab it the middle of hell on earth, Old Mexico.
Since 1976, work we did, and I mean Mexican back-hoes and wheel-barrows. Our unique business allowed for each and every villager to live a life lacking in need. Farmers is what they are by nature. It's just that their standard dirt-scratching farming methods were outdated and archaic. And, don't even think of irrigation, for they had no concept of hydrting their gardens with burros and cowhide bags filled with water. Dirt farming was an adequate term to describe these mountain dwellers who felt the sting of povety so badly, for so long that they became nose-blind to the pig and chicken farming that sustained their necessity for protein. The corn, bean, and coffee gardening was nothing more than a weak attempt at the impossible, which is growing hearty vegetables through irrigation systems. But, even drwoning in impoverished quicksand, there was a special trait about these people of the rugged mountains They were ingrained with genuine, heatwrenching love for family and friends, or should I say compadres. Villagers were family, if not by blood, then by loyalty over decades of time and their codependency on one another bonded them as close-knit as any blood kin.

The magic of incomprehensible love and cooperation reached fruition in ou Shadow Mountains Range. Once poor, dirt-scratching, chicken farmers, following the lead of a young hippy-boy who came riding in on a mule with his friend, Miguel, a Shadow Mountain spokesman. Never have the young hippy experienced such genuine love, graciousness, welcoming smiles in his entire life of sixteen years. "My God, I'm in Paradise!" I exclaimed. "What kind of people are these, Miguel?" They remind me of my Native American friends back in South Lousisiana, hard-working, happy, content and grateful to God for every meal and pitance of pay. "We've come a long, long, long way, Mike!" I smiled. "All the way to Heaven on Earth, with the inescapable stench of cartel cohorts ... can't win them all, mi amigo. just cast them into the sea, a fitting end for such depraved maniacs."
In terms of revenue, societal peace, and hope for their future, our co-op has grown into a living, breathing entity. A system of self-governing was established decades ago mirroring the United States of America.
